Marianne W. Gaige, Cathedral Corporation’s Chairman and CEO, has announced that Cathedral’s Diocesan, Church and Nonprofit Division, including its headquarters and production facility in Rome, New York, and Letter Concepts facility in Berlin, Connecticut, will now be known as Cathedral Letter Concepts.

The organization will continue to serve its nearly 4,000 customers, including more than 40 dioceses, archdioceses and religious orders, more than 3,800 churches of all denominations and a range of nonprofits including higher education institutions, police benefit organizations and social ministries. “We remain committed to serve our foundational diocesan, church and nonprofit customers with print, mail and a range of electronic products and services,” Gaige emphasized.

“Our commitment to serving the Church with cost-efficient, practical solutions as well as excellence in data management, print production and mailing is the foundation of everything we do, and that will continue as we move into a new era with Cathedral Letter Concepts,” said Thomas M. Wilson, Executive Vice President and General Manager.

Cathedral Corporation began in 1916 as a manufacturer of corrugated boxes. Over time, management saw the need to diversify the business, acquiring a company that produced offering envelopes, managed parishioner lists and mailed these offering envelopes directly to parishioners’ homes. Eventually, the paper-board part of the business was sold, and the print and mail business became the strategic focus of the company, which expanded to offer data management services and other kinds of direct mail.

For example, a church mailing of offering envelopes commonly went to only a partial list of parishioners. A personalized direct mail letter to the remainder allowed the church to stay in touch with all parishioners. This strategy helps the church become more financially fit by providing other ways to receive offerings and, just as important, to stay in touch with all parishioners and increase parishioner involvement in the church. This stewardship direct mail program for churches became a proven and effective approach.

As a natural evolution of managing customer data and focusing on member-type groups, Cathedral Corporation started to diversify into other industry segments while still focusing on core competencies including personalized direct mail programs, high-quality production control and exceptional customer service. In so doing, Cathedral acquired companies in Lincoln, Rhode Island, in 1995; Rome, New York, in 1999 and in Orlando, Florida, in 2014, with facilities tailored to produce business communications for member-based organizations such as banks, credit unions, insurance companies, government agencies, healthcare and tolling services.

And in 2021, eager to grow its market share in the church space, Cathedral had acquired Letter Concepts, a Berlin, Connecticut, firm that specialized in personalized direct mail fundraising to Catholic dioceses, archdioceses and parishes nationwide. Co-founded in 1989 by brothers John & Tom Wilson, the firm emphasized cost-effective, error-free production in serving some of the largest dioceses and archdioceses in the country with (arch)bishop’s appeals, capital campaigns and special collections.

With the addition of the Letter Concepts team, Cathedral grew to more than 280 employees at four locations including its Rome headquarters and plants in Rhode Island, Florida and Connecticut. The acquisition of Letter Concepts by Cathedral enabled the corporation to provide all clients with a wider range of communication channel opportunities including:

Database creation by the LC programming department, including housing and updating of client databases.

Personalized, targeted and segmented direct mail, lockbox and data processing services including data entry, check depositing and credit card entry of all campaign returns, including supplying import files to be uploaded daily into each client’s CRM software.

Robust email communications and follow-ups, social media advertising to enhance program results, tracking of mailings to see actual in-home delivery dates, and a thorough analysis of mailing results to allow adjustments during the campaign.

The Cathedral Business Division was acquired in June 2025 by FSSI, a leading California-based provider of print, mail and electronic document outsourcing services. This strategic move allowed change to Cathedral Letter Concepts, still headquartered in Rome, with a concentrated focus on church and nonprofit service. Cathedral Letter Concepts’ strategy remains focused on managing customer data to produce customized direct marketing programs, delivering appeals and campaigns as well as envelope and electronic services, and featuring high-quality production control and exceptional customer service.

            - Marianne W. Gaige, Cathedral Corporation’s chairman and CEO, has announced an agreement under which Cathedral’s Business Services Division, encompassing several lines of business including financial services, government, healthcare and tolling services, will be acquired by FSSI, a leading California-based provider of print, mail and electronic document outsourcing services.

“I am delighted that FSSI also has a client-focused culture ingrained in each and every employee. The strategic choice to make our two very similar business organizations one will continue to provide service excellence to our existing customers while offering opportunities for further growth,” Gaige said.

Cathedral Corporation has grown over its nearly 110-year lifespan from a church envelope provider to serve an array of industries, particularly community- and membership-based organizations such as banks, credit unions, healthcare companies, insurance providers, government services and tolling services. Cathedral’s production plants in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and Orlando, Florida, will complement FSSI’s existing facilities in Santa Ana, California, and Coppell, Texas, increasing FSSI’s capacity and geographic reach while strengthening organizational redundancy.

“We're tremendously pleased with this acquisition, which perfectly aligns with FSSI’s long-term vision to expand our presence to the East Coast while delivering enhanced services and support that will benefit both companies’ loyal clients as well as new customers,” said Jennifer Dietz, the CEO of FSSI, adding that clients across the country will gain access to trusted automation and reporting tools and client-facing technologies.

“We're excited to join forces with the talented Cathedral team and share with them the opportunity of employee-ownership,” Dietz added. “FSSI is poised to continue providing innovative print and mail and e-presentment solutions while propelling our business into a new chapter of growth and success.”

Gaige added that Cathedral Corporation’s Diocesan, Church and Nonprofit Division, including its headquarters and production facility in Rome, New York, and Letter Concepts facility in Berlin, Connecticut, will continue to serve its approximately 4,000 customers in the nonprofit arena, including more than 40 dioceses, archdioceses and religious orders, more than 3,800 churches of all denominations and a range of nonprofits including higher education institutions, police benefit organizations and social ministries.

“We remain committed to serve our foundational diocesan, church and nonprofit customers with print, mail and a range of electronic products and services,” Gaige emphasized.

           – Marianne W. Gaige, Cathedral Corporation’s chairman and CEO, has announced that Mike Velasquez, formerly vice president for channel sales for OSG, has been named vice president for business and government sales for Cathedral Corporation.

Velasquez has more than 20 years of progressive experience in direct sales, channel sales and sales management. In 21 years with OSG, he compiled a track record of success in complex solution sales including print and digital services in all areas of customer engagement management.

As part of his responsibilities at OSG, he directed the establishment of an indirect channel sales program in 2009, growing it from zero to more than $12 million, consistently exceeding sales quota objectives and establishing 12 new channel relationships. Prior to his role in developing channel sales, Velasquez served as manager of major accounts, supervising a department responsible for the management of more than 100 existing client relationships and representing $14 million in annual revenue. He previously was a major accounts manager, responsible for managing a base of 25 existing client relationships that generated more than $2.5 million in annual revenues. He began his career with OSG as district sales manager in 2014, a position he held for three years prior to being promoted to major accounts manager. During his tenure with the company, annual revenues grew from $5 million to $650 million.

“Mike’s experience in both direct sales and development of new opportunities for indirect sales is key to his success – as well as Cathedral’s continued success in providing outsourced business communications for both industry and government agencies,” Gaige said. “We welcome his contributions as well as his support of the growth of sales by our team in these areas.”

Cathedral was one of only four manufacturers in Florida and Georgia to win an excellence award, selected from among 80 nominees, while two others received a nod for high performance and innovation in operations.

“It is an honor for the Sterling Council to highlight and recognize these six manufacturers. Every day they demonstrated high performance in the Florida and Georgia manufacturing sectors,” said Roland Martinez, chairman of the Sterling Council. “These companies have each undergone an intensive and demanding process assessing their ability to address strategic challenges and align company resources to achieve their mission for enduring success. They represent the best of regional manufacturing. On behalf of The Sterling Council and our regional partners, I congratulate each company for these awards.”

The employees of Cathedral Corporation headquartered in Rome, NY, dress down during Jeans Day with the additional motivation of giving back to their community. Every Friday, the workers at the company located at Griffiss Business Park participate by donating to the Jeans Day Fund with the incentive of being able to dress down for the day. In addition, local non-profit organizations benefit from the donated funds.

Some organizations that have benefitted include Mercy Flight Central, Spring Farm Cares, Feed Our Vets, and Abraham House, which Cathedral employees choose.

Cathedral Corporation is pleased to announce that they are one of 23 manufacturing companies in a field of over 160 nominees selected as finalists for the Sterling Manufacturing Business Excellence (SMBE) Awards.

The Sterling Council and FloridaMakes collaborate on the SMBE awards to recognize the state's high-performing manufacturers. Companies are judged in several criteria categories: leadership, strategy, customers, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce, and operations. Cathedral's client, Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office, nominated Cathedral, saying, "Cathedral is an invaluable supplier to us at the Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office. Their ability to merge complex monthly data into our county template to create personalized registration renewals and parking permit applications is an important process and impacts our reputation. Cathedral's programming, data processing, printing and mailing services all help us meet and exceed our customer requirements. Cathedral also CASS certifies our data to obtain the lowest possible postage rates and increase deliverability. This increases our community members’ satisfaction and reduces tax dollar spending. In addition, Cathedral prepares Statistical Reports which support our continuous improvement processes in reducing waste and rejections and promoting change initiatives."

"We are honored to be a finalist along with these other impressive manufacturing companies. Our goal at Cathedral is to meet and exceed our customers' expectations. It is gratifying to have Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office nominate us for this distinction," said Marianne W. Gaige, Chairman and CEO, Cathedral Corporation. "We also appreciate the support and resources that FloridaMakes and Sterling Council continue to offer to the Florida manufacturing sector."
